About the Office of Legal Counsel & General Affairs

The Office of Legal Affairs General Counsel represents and advises the University of 猫咪社区官网 at Lafayette, its governing leadership, and all campus units acting within the scope of their University roles. 

We also coordinate with the University of 猫咪社区官网 System, state agencies, affiliated foundations, and external partners when University interests are involved.

What We Do

We advise the University鈥攊ts leadership, colleges, departments, faculty, staff, and affiliated entities鈥攐n a broad range of issues, including:

  • Governance and strategic counsel: Board matters; delegation of authority; University policies; compliance strategy
  • Contracts and transactions: Academic affiliations; research agreements; sponsored projects; cooperative endeavor agreements; athletics and multimedia rights; real estate & facilities; procurement; technology & data use
  • Policy development and review: Drafting, updating, and interpreting University policies and procedures across academic, administrative, and operational areas
  • Employment and labor: Faculty and staff employment matters; workplace investigations; accommodation issues (in coordination with HR/EEO/ADA offices); discipline and separation
  • Student and campus life: Student conduct, organizations, housing, and campus safety issues (in partnership with Student Affairs and other offices)
  • Research, intellectual property, and innovation: Research compliance, technology transfer coordination, confidentiality and data agreements.
  • Risk management integration: Collaboration with Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), Risk Management, and Emergency Preparedness to identify, evaluate, and mitigate institutional risks
  • Public records, subpoenas, and compliance requests: Guidance on 猫咪社区官网 Public Records Law, records responses, and legal holds
  • Dispute resolution and litigation management: Early problem resolution, claims management, coordination with outside counsel, representation in administrative forums, and oversight of litigation involving the University
